By Matt Fossen

Among a menagerie of recent Ithaca city council discussions has emerged an unanimous budget vote that will increase the housing tax levy by 2.5% for the fiscal 2014 year. The local legislature cited the debt service as a central element in the decision, but ultimately referred to future city projects that will need capital in the coming year. While the projects remain to be clearly defined at the moment, city officials have assured people that any allotment for contentious jail expansions were not included in the present budget.
