Ithaca Mayor Myrick hopes to reduce free public parking in Ithaca
On Saturday Mayor Myrick declared his hopes to get rid of the minimum parking requirements that force developers and landlords to provide parking for residents. Alderman Murtagh from the Planning and Development Committee wants to see this change as well, but in a slightly altered manner. Acknowledging the fact that these parking requirements drive rent costs, Murtagh hopes to see each town decide what this means for their town individually. The problem is especially prevalent in Collegetown where lots of Cornell students bring their cars to campus. This problem is being analyzed from multiple angles but Myrick is in favor of removing the MPRs.
