A 22-year-old man from Albany, Manik Gupta, confessed that he lied to FBI agents when he told them that a Cornell student was plotting to bomb the campus, kill faculty, and send anthrax to the White House. The target of this accusation was a rival who is now dating his ex girlfriend.
After pleading guilty on Monday. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison and fines of up to $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 26 in U.S. District Court.
