12-year-old Tyler Koop, a seventh grade suburban Rochester boy, has died after being hit in the chest by a lacrosse ball last week.
Authorities have said that the boy was playing a Total Sports Experience Thursday night when he was hit by a rubber ball, causing his heart to stop.
Lacrosse is known to cause sometimes fatal injuries from blows to the chest and head. A senior Cornell lacrosse player, George Boiardi, was killed in 2004 after receiving a similar blow to the chest.
