NFL Week 9 Power Rankings
Haaris Muneer
| November 7, 2012

Muscle Hamster Edition

So here's another installment of my weekly power rankings. I've been talking about these with some of my friends and acquaintances, and I've gotten some mixed responses to the individual ranks of teams. Let me know what you think. Please leave a comment if you have anything to say. I'd love to further discuss my rationale behind the ranks of certain teams.

Rank

Team

Change

Record

Reasoning

1

Falcons

--

8-0

The Falcons have been winning (obviously), and the rest of their schedule looks pretty light. It seems like the Falcons are in the fast lane to a first round bye.

2

Texans

--

7-1

Despite a weak first half, the Texans remain the team to beat in the AFC. Their toughest matchup of the season comes this week: Da Bears.

3

49ers

--

6-2

Bye week with an easy matchup against the Rams in the week to come.

4

Bears

+1

7-1

The Bears managed to dominate the Titans in every way imaginable during this blowout of a game.

5

Packers

+2

6-3

There have been tons of injuries on the Packers, but it seems like nothing can keep this team down for long.

6

Patriots

--

5-3

The Patriots have had 2 weeks to rest and historically have great games against the Bills. This looks to be an easy win.

7

Giants

-3

6-3

This is the third week in a row that the Giants offense has been less than stellar. Hopefully this is a wakeup call; they need to win their next game before the bye week.

8

Broncos

--

5-3

Bye week. The Patriots have often played extremely well against the Bills, who they face at home in Gillette Stadium.

9

Steelers

--

5-3

After being down early due to some questionable reffing, the Steelers made a nice comeback simply by outplaying the Giants.

10

Ravens

--

6-2

The Ravens won a close one against the Browns. The defense came through to stop the Browns from scoring in several close red zone situations.

11

Seahawks

+1

5-4

Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch looked strong and too solid against a stout Vikings defense.

12

Vikings

-1

5-4

What looked like such a hopeful season is slipping away as the Vikings fall to 3rd in the NFC North. Ponder might actually be one of the problems with this team.

13

Colts

+8

5-3

Andrew Luck is finally hitting his stride and the Colts look to be getting stronger every week.

14

Dolphins

-1

4-4

The Dolphins pass defense really let the team down as Andrew Luck walked all over them. They’re in the hunt for a wildcard spot, so they need to step it up.

15

Lions

+4

4-4

The Lions have recently started to do well in the toughest division in the NFL. With a difficult end to their schedule, let’s see what they can do for the rest of the season.

16

Buccaneers

+2

4-4

The defense fell apart on Sunday; however, the passing offense is doing pretty well and Doug Martin is a beast of a running back.

17

Redskins

-3

3-6

When opposing defenses show up and pressure him, RGIII doesn’t seem to have too many weapons on his offense besides running it.

18

Cardinals

-3

4-5

From 4-0 to 4-5. That’s a 5 game losing streak. It’s hard for a team to do well with a mediocre QB behind a nonexistent O-line

19

Cowboys

-3

3-5

A team with so much talent really should not be this bad. Personally, I put a lot of the blame on Jerry Jones.

20

Bengals

-3

3-5

The season is pretty much over for the Bengals a they’ve lost their last 4 games. This just won’t cut it  with so many other AFC teams looking for a wild card spot.

21

Saints

+2

3-5

On top of the Saints offense looking as explosive as ever, the defense came through for once as Vick was sacked 7 times.

22

Chargers

--

4-4

The Chargers pulled out a much needed win against the Chiefs, but then again, it was the Chiefs…

23

Eagles

-3

3-5

Things do not look well for head coach Andy Reid as the Eagles fall to 3-5 and looked absolutely terrible in the process.

24

Rams

--

3-5

The Rams must face the division leading 49ers after their bye week.

25

Jets

--

3-5

The Jets have a tough matchup against the Seahawks after their bye week.

26

Raiders

--

3-5

A few key turnovers and a terrible run defense cost the Raiders a win last week against the Buccaneers.

27

Panthers

+3

2-6

RGIII really couldn’t do much as the Panthers defense did a great job at containing him throughout the game.

28

Bills

-1

3-5

The Bills need to utilize the enormous talent of CJ Spiller if they want to start winning games. Six snaps is not nearly enough to kick start their offense again.

29

Browns

--

2-7

Five drives that could have ended in touchdowns became field goals. Weeden and the Browns red zone offense need to improve.

30

Titans

-2

3-6

There were a ton of mistakes made all around in the Titans’ blowout loss to the Bears. Many fans are blaming the coaching staff for this season’s woes.

31

Jaguars

--

1-7

With MJD ruled out for this week’s game, the Jaguars will probably continue to plummet.

32

Chiefs

--

1-7

There’s really not much to be said here. Romeo Crennel fires himself as defensive coordinator, but there are plenty more issues that still haven’t been addressed.

Even if you absolutely hate these rankings, please let me know. I'd love to discuss them with someone.

Texans and Falcons may have the best records in the league, but I don't know if I'll trust them in the postseason
