Safety Edition

I decided to continue my power rankings this year. THis is just week 1, and it's pretty difficult to tell how good or bad a team is based on one performance. Don't get upset if you don't think your team is where they should be, teams will probably move around a lot in the coming weeks as we figure out how good they are.

Rank

Team

Record

Reasoning

1

Broncos

1-0

7 touchdowns from Peyton Manning against the reigning Super Bowl champs say all that needs to be said. The Broncos are a dangerous team all around this year.

2

49ers

1-0

Colin Kaerpernick showed how much of a passing threat he can be in the 49ers solid win against the Packers. The 49ers are the team to beat in the NFC right now.

3

Texans

1-0

The Texans came back against the Chargers in the second half to pull out a win. The passing game looked great, but the running game looked a bit weak. Using both Foster and Tate will probably help keep both of them fresh.

4

Saints

1-0

Concerns with the Saints defense were probably unwarranted. They were able to control an offense featuring Julio, Gonzalez, Roddy, and SJax pretty well, and their offense looked solid as always. A great start to the season against a tough division rival.

5

Seahawks

1-0

The Seahawks offense looked dead on Sunday, putting up only 12 points total. We’ll have to see if this is a legitimate concern or if the Panthers defense actually being dominant is the reason the Seahawks couldn’t perform.

6

Packers

0-1

In a tough week 1 loss, Green Bay looked solid against the run but really week against Kaepernick’s passing game. The secondary and run game will need to improve in the coming weeks because the Packers have a difficult schedule moving forward.

7

Patriots

1-0

With Amendola, Gronk, and Vereen out, the Patriots’ rookies will need to step up and establish a solid passing game. The Patriots almost lost what was supposed to be a sure win on Sunday.

8

Falcons

0-1

Atlanta was supposed to be a top team this year, but they won’t come close to their potential if the O-line doesn’t protect Matt Ryan.

9

Bears

1-0

The Bears O-line looked fantastic on Sunday, allowing no sacks against a solid Bengals D-line. The defense looked solid as ever, and the Cutler-Marshall connection continues to be effective.

10

Bengals

0-1

Cincinnati almost managed to eke out a win against Chicago, but a few penalties and turnovers stopped them from winning.

11

Ravens

0-1

With the loss of Pitta and Jones, the Ravens offense is in a bad place right now. The once-legendary defense has also been weakened, allowing Peyton Manning to throw for 7 touchdowns.

12

Lions

1-0

The score doesn’t show it, but the Lions absolutely dominated the Vikings on Sunday. Even with two touchdowns questionably called back, the Lions still won handily. The Lions now have a dangerous two-headed offense and a solid defense.

13

Colts

1-0

The Colts almost lost to the Raiders. In particular, their run defense didn’t look too great, allowing Pryor to rush for 112 yards. However, Luck is looking great and he has a few solid passing threats.

14

Cowboys

1-0

The Cowboys looked far from solid in their win against the Giants on Sunday, but a win is a win. The Cowboys need to capitalize on their opportunities more effectively.

15

Eagles

1-0

Chip Kelly has really rejuvenated the Eagles. They looked great on both sides of the ball, and the Vick/Jackson/McCoy combo is pretty scary.

16

Redskins

0-1

RGIII looked pretty rusty, and when RGIII isn’t playing too well, Morris ends up suffering as well. The Redskins almost came back, but they fell short in the end.

17

Rams

1-0

The Rams defense looked great on Sunday with 4 sacks against Carson Palmer. Bradford has finally found someone reliable to throw to, but the Rams are still in what may be the toughest division in the NFL.

18

Chiefs

1-0

The Chiefs did what they needed to do and completely destroyed the Jaguars. Andy Reid as head coach and Alex Smith at QB are hopefully going to bring some stability to this team.

19

Giants

0-1

Even with all of the injuries, the Giants defense looked decent against the Cowboys. Somehow, despite the -5 turnover differential, the Giants didn’t lose too badly, but these mistakes and turnovers need to stop if the Giants want to win the NFC East.

20

Panthers

0-1

LB Luke Kuechly and the rest of the Panthers defense looked dominant against a solid Seahawks offense on Sunday; however, the offense looked pretty stagnant and wasn’t able to do much.

21

Dolphins

1-0

The Dolphins seemed really one-sided on Sunday. The defense dominated and leads the league in sacks, but the offense was pretty lackluster.

22

Titans

1-0

This was a really ugly game, but the Titans managed to pull out a win in the end. Although the defense was dominant against the Steelers, the offense only managed to gain 229 yards on offense.

23

Vikings

0-1

The Vikings o-line looked awful during their loss to the Lions. After Peterson’s 78 yard run, he ran for just 15 yards on 17 carries. The o-line didn’t protect Ponder very well, and the defense allowed Reggie Bush to run free.

24

Chargers

0-1

In typical Chargers fashion, the Chargers showed up to play in the first half and then proceeded to blow a 21-point lead going into the second half.

25

Steelers

0-1

The Steelers are in shambles right now. The injury bug bit them hard, and they don’t look like they have a chance in this tough division.

26

Cardinals

0-1

Carson Palmer would be doing pretty well if the O-line even attempted to protect him. That’s the main thing that’s holding them back right now.

27

Jets

1-0

Geno Smith is exactly what the Jets needed: a fresh start at QB. The defense limited the Buccaneers significantly, and the Jets managed to win by a point. Their next matchup against the Pats will be much tougher.

28

Bills

0-1

The Bills almost managed to pull out a win against the Patriots and have definitely improved. EJ Manuel is going to be exciting to watch in the coming years.

29

Raiders

0-1

The Raiders played a hard fought game, but some silly mistakes cost them the win. The defense looked solid against the Colts, and Terrelle Pryor showed a lot of promise in his second NFL start ever.

30

Buccaneers

0-1

The Buccaneers played absolutely terrible football on Sunday. They’ll need to stop with all of the stupid penalties if they want to have an actual chance at winning games.

31

Browns

0-1

If the Browns want to have a legitimate chance at winning, they need to put the ball in their all-star RB’s hands more than 13 times and not let Weeden throw it even close to 50 times.

32

Jaguars

0-1

The Jaguars didn’t score a single point on offense in their season opener against the Chiefs. Gabbert had a historically bad game, MJD wasn’t able to run at all, and the defense looked pretty bad.
