Adobe InDesign Workshop Series Upcoming at TCPL

ITHACA—Tompkins County Public Library is pleased to offer a three-part workshop series in Adobe InDesign, Wednesdays, September 11 and 25 and October 9, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Library’s Digital Lab. Graphic designer Amy Callahan will lead this workshop in the basics of Microsoft InDesign, a desktop publishing program that can be used to create single or multi-page documents, including flyers, posters, brochures, and magazines. At the introductory class, participants will learn to create a new documents, use rulers, guides, and grids to organize the workspace, and import images and text into the design. At the second meeting, participants will learn to use “master pages” and “styles,” tools that allow the simultaneous editing of multiple pages, as well as learning some tricks to alter the appearance of text. For these sessions, the instructor will provide text and images. At the third session of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to apply the skills they’ve learned to the creation of a zine, which is a self-published mini-magazine. For this session, participants will prepare images and text of their choice. Workshop series participants are expected to be experienced with using the basic tools of the Mac operating system X; using a keyboard and mouse; and accessing, importing, and saving files.
