The Chemung County Chamber of Commerce and its Business Education Roundtable are pleased to announce the fourth annual regional celebration of National Manufacturing Day (MFG Day). National MFG Day is the first Friday of October each year. The purpose of this event is to bridge the talent gap for the manufacturing industry by showcasing the importance and potential of modern manufacturing while inspiring the next generation of creators. In 2018, more than 2,700 MFG Day events were held across the U.S.
The “Made in the Southern Tier” MFG Day Expo will take place on Friday, October 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Greater Southern Tier BOCES. The expo will feature fifteen exhibitors, as well as manufacturing demos and activities from The Hilliard Corporation, Kennedy Valve, Automated Cells & Equipment, CCLD Makerspace, Virtual Reality by Enhance-VR with Global Cloud Solutions, and a Selfie Station constructed by Cameron Manufacturing & Design. Events will take place in Building #1 at GST BOCES, which is located at 459 Philo Road in Elmira.
Manufacturers participating in the expo include: The Hilliard Corporation, Kennedy Valve, Hardinge Inc., Cameron Manufacturing & Design, Southerntier Custom Fabricators, Evolution Edges (a division of Chemung Supply), Eastern Metal Signs & Safety, EL Manufacturing, IncubatorWorks, Eaton Corporation, Vulcraft of New York, CemeCon, SEPAC Inc., CAFUSA, and F.M. This expo is not open to the public, but is open to middle school, high school, BOCES, and college students and staff, as well as members of any Chamber across the Southern Tier. The suggested media arrival time is between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 4.
“There is an increasing demand for highly skilled professionals in the manufacturing sector who can design, program, and operate technology,” said Kamala Keeley, President and CEO of the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce. “The average age of a manufacturing employee is 56, and over the next decade there will be an unprecedented shortage of skilled workers who will need to be replaced.”
The Chamber would like to thank all of the event sponsors and supporters: Kennedy Valve, The Hilliard Corporation, Cameron Manufacturing & Design, Hardinge Inc., The Alliance for Manufacturing & Technology, Evolution Edges (a division of Chemung Supply), Southern Tier Economic Growth, Southerntier Custom Fabricators, Triple Cities Network Solutions, Brown & Brown Empire State, SUNY Corning Community College Workforce, Eastern Metal Signs & Safety, EL Manufacturing, Fagan Engineers & Land Surveyors, Global Cloud Solutions Inc., IncubatorWorks, CemeCon, Greater Southern Tier BOCES, WENY-TV, Career Development Council, The Community Foundation, Culligan Water, and The Vermont Flannel Company.
