New York State Police tell us a 27-year-old Horseheads man was arrested in the aftermath of Sunday evening's two-car collision on Shaffer Road in Newfield. Andrew P. Sampson was charged with the felony charge of vehicular assault in the first degree, the misdemeanor of driving while intoxicated, and the violation of unlawful possession of marijuana.
Emergency responders were called to the scene at about 7pm Sunday after the reported head-on collision in Newfield, south of Ithaca, near VanBuskirk Gulf Road, and helicopters were dispatched to take injury victims to area trauma centers.
