ITHACA— Tompkins County Public Library is pleased to announce the details of its 2019 Summer Reading Programs for Pre-readers, Children, Teens, and Adults. The Reading Programs start Saturday, June 29 and run through August 10, and include free programming for all ages. Participants can check out books, read, and attend programs to earn free books and chances to win raffle prizes.
Pre-Reader Summer Reading Challenge (Ages 0-4)
Caregivers can celebrate the joy of reading with the young ones in their lives, attend library programs, and build skills with early literacy activities. Free events at the Library for pre-readers include Miss Judy’s Musical Adventure, Summer Art Fun with Stiller Zusman, Stuffed Animal Storytime, and more. Pre-readers will receive a book when they register and when returning a completed game card to the Library. Summer Reading Challenge (Ages 5-10)
This program kicks off Saturday, June 29 with a performance by Commander Dave (aka Moreland the Magician). Children ages 5-10 can enjoy free events at the Library all summer long, including Summer Comics Camp, Puppet Workshops, a Roblox Party, and much more. Children will receive a free book when they register at TCPL or when TCPL Librarians visit their school. They will receive another free book when they return their game card to the Library. Each completed game card will also enter them into a raffle for prizes. Calendars to track reading and activities are available at the Library or at https://www.tcpl.org/2019-summer-adventure.
Teen Summer Reading Challenge (Grades 6-12 and homeschooling equivalent)
Teens and preteens who participate in the Summer Reading Challenge will receive a free book of their choice when they register. They will receive a punch card and can earn one punch for each hour they read OR for each TCPL event they attend. They will receive a mochi squishy toy after receiving five punches, and each completed 5-punch card earns an entry into the end of summer prize raffle. Teens can enjoy free events all summer long at the Library, including crafting classes, a creative writing summer camp, a moon rover workshop, and more. Register and receive a punch card at the Library.
Adult Summer Reading Challenge
TCPL’s Adult Summer Reading Challenge offers adult patrons the opportunity to win prizes and explore their world. Programs will include a crafting workshop, a lecture on astronomy, a C. S. Lewis book club, a Speculative Fiction Writing Workshop, and more. Participants can read books, watch movies, listen to music, and share reviews. All participants will be entered into prize drawings at the end of the program.
