On the Anniversary of John Lennon's Shooting Death, A Tribute: Words and Music by John Winston Ono Lennon

  • Help! - Mary McCaslin (1971 - Barnaby Records radio promo 45)

  • * God - Plastic Ono Band (1971)

  • Love - The Lettermen (10/71; #42 - faithful cover of a track from the "Plastic Ono Band" LP)

  • * In My Life - Judy Collins (1967 - title track of her LP)

  • I Don't Want To Spoil The Party - Nu-Utopians (from their 2012 CD "Imagined")

  • You Can't Do That - Nilsson (8/67; #122 - a pastiche of Beatles songs, and his first nearly-charting single)

  • John, You Went Too Far This Time - Rainbo (1969; actress Cissy Spacek got her start as a teen recording artist. She recorded this in response to John & Yoko's nude photo on the cover of their "Two Virgins" LP)

  • * Strawberry Fields Forever - The Beatles (2/67; originally intended for the Sgt. Pepper LP, this was released as a double-sided single with Paul's "Penny Lane" on the flip)

  • Anna - The Beatles (1963 - their cover of the Arthur Alexander tune. Brian Epstein has been quoted as saying that John had "the best Rock 'n' Roll voice" of his time)

  • Twist & Shout - The Beatles (4/64; #2 - further proof on this cover of the Isley Brothers' hit)

  • And Your Bird Can Sing - The Beatles (from "Anthology 2," a glimpse into the studio shenanigans of a great band)

  • You're Going To Lose That Girl - The Beatles (1965; one of John's strong contributions to the "Help!" soundtrack)

  • I'll Cry Instead - The Beatles (8/64; one of John's strong contributions to "A Hard Day's Night.")

  • Don't Let Me Down - The Beatles (1969; this version from the "Naked" CD shows the raw power of the band and the man)

  • Give Peace a Chance - Plastic Ono Band (1971; recorded during their "bed-in" in Toronto, this song became an enduring anti-war anthem)

  • Revolution - The Beatles (10/68; the b-side of the band's first Apple single. The flip side was "Hey Jude.")

  • Julia - John Lennon (1968; from the "White Album" sessions: a glimpse into John's studio persona)

  • Woman - John Lennon (1980; from the "Double Fantasy" LP. "For the other half of the sky.")

  • Across The Universe - The Beatles (from the "Naked" CD, this is the song without Phil Spector's choir of angels and studio overdubs)

  • Empty Garden (Hey, Hey Johnny) - Elton John (1982; EJ's musical response to John's death)

  • Watching The Wheels - John Lennon (1980; from the "Double Fantasy" LP. )

  • Someday We'll All Be Free/Imagine - Ben E. King & The Average White Band (from the Atlantic Records LP "Benny & Us." Sigh.)
