ITHACA—Tompkins County Public Library’s STEAM Book Club will meet Wednesday, September 25, from 3:45 to 4:45 pm in the Library’s Thaler/Howell Programming Room to discuss “Tree of Dreams,” by Laura Resau.
TCPL’s STEAM Book Club invites children ages 8-12 to explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through lively book discussions and hands-on activities. The STEAM Book Club meets monthly for discussion and refreshments. For September’s meeting, the Club will read and discuss “Tree of Dreams,” by Laura Resau, which follows the story of twelve-year-old Coco Hidden, her friend, and their mothers to the Amazon in search of the rare ceiba tree. In the course of the journey, Coco gains perspective and purpose by learning about the native people of the Amazon and their way of life.
This month, the book discussion will be followed by a walking tour of city trees near the Library, led by Ithaca City Forester, Jeanne Grace. Participants in the walking tour will need to have their parents or guardians fill out a permission slip, available at the Youth Services Reference Desk.
Registration is required. Register and pick up a free copy of the book at the Youth Services Reference Desk.
