Writer: WVBR NewsWVBR News

The storm is expected to approach Ithaca and Tompkins County Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the south central New York area for the next two days. Heavy snow is expected, with total accumulations of 12 to 20 inches and wind gusts as high as 35 mph.

With this warning, the NWS is considering travel conditions as "very hazardous or impossible." Residents are urged to shelter with plenty of food and supplies and avoid the roads.

Cornell University and Ithaca College students are expecting to return to campus this weekend but not without delays. Coach USA Shortline and Cornell Campus-to-Campus bus services canceled for Sunday, January 20th. Air travelers can also expect cancelations, if not heavy delays.

The City of Ithaca will send snow plowers to try to keep the roads clear and will enforce Odd/Even parking. For the latest updates on road conditions in any state, you may call 5-1-1.
